Giants warn their feisty AFL stars

Talia faces Tigers fitness test today

-

ADELAIDE defender Daniel Talia is a chance to overcome a hamstring injury and play against Richmond in Sunday’s AFL clash of two unbeaten sides. The All Australian backman limped off the ground early in last week’s win against Gold Coast but scans have shown no serious damage.

“He had a little run around today and he’s been getting up to pretty good speed,” teammate Rory Sloane said.

“That is one we will just assess tomorrow. Obviously he came off the ground pretty tight on the weekend but we will give him every chance to play.”

Talia’s inclusion looms large in Sunday’s Adelaide Oval encounter given the hot form of Richmond’s ace forward Jack Riewoldt. The Crows could also summon their own key forward Josh Jenkins, who is pressing for selection after missing three matches with a rib injury.

Jenkins, like Talia, will face a fitness test today ahead of team selection as the Crows seek to continue their unbeaten season.

“Certainly a very good start to the year and as has been noted the best start to a year we have had as a footy club,” Sloane said. “It’s just enjoyable footy to play at the moment.” GREATER Western Sydney have spoken to their feisty AllAustralian AFL stars Toby Greene and Heath Shaw about their on-field behaviour and controlling their aggression.

Greene was reported for an alleged head butt on Sydney’s Isaac Heeney last Saturday, but the match review panel deemed there was insufficient force to warrant a charge. The incident occurred the round after Green was fined $1,000 for striking Port Adelaide’s Dan Houston.

Half back Shaw, who is renowned for his on-field verballing, apologised on Sunday morning after an onfield microphone caught him sledging Sydney’s Tom Papley.

Cameron noted the top teams of recent times had played on the edge and said he loved the competitiveness of his players, but they needed to make sure they kept their emotions in check.

“We’ve had a good chat with Toby over the last couple of weeks, ” Cameron said. “He’s got to make sure that in the moment he’s got to be able to control that aggression.”

Giants co-captain Phil Davis will miss tomorrow’s clash with Western Bulldogs with a hamstring strain.
