P0 Box 1, Southport 4215 editorial@goldcoast.com.au facebook.com/goldcoastbulletin ADANI wants to mine coal to send to its electricity generating company in India.

The Queensland Government wants to create jobs for Queenslanders. The Indian company wants to borrow money from Australian banks.

The Federal Government wants to give Adani $2 billion for a railway line. There are questions concerning the ethics and financial viability of Adani if the viability of this mining bonanza in creating Queensland jobs is based on Australian banks’ money.

Why doesn’t the Queensland Government borrow the billions to open this mine from Queensland Government bonds, which will be collected from Australian citizens (perhaps also super funds) and pay interest to the Australian people, rather than the Aussie banks borrowing from overseas banks and the profits from our resources go overseas?

ANGELO CATALANO, GOLD COAST

THE homeless Gold Coast man who received a bashing from eight thugs and who then was advised by police not to pursue the matter ( GCB, 29/4) was probably recorded by police in their dodgy crime statistics as successfully resolved.

The police service badge says something about serving with honour but it’s pretty hard to reconcile that motto with what’s been reported in the press over the past year with regard to police brutality to prisoners and official retribution against so-called whistle blowers in the Gold Coast area.

PHIL GREENHILL, BELLBIRD PARK

WHY are whistleblowers so unpopular? (“Well done, rack off,” GCB, 28/4).

I accept that “dobbing” on mates is not cool but surely in a professional world where injustices are happening it should be acceptable.

The nurse who blew the whistle in Bundaberg on Dr Patel did what any caring person should do but was victimised as a consequence.

Now a similar scenario exists in the Gold Coast police force where a respected policeman has been through the wringer after informing about police wrongdoings.

When the wrongdoing involves police cell brutality it should be brought to the attention of authorities as well as the public.

Why should this guy have to tolerate abuse himself for his whistleblowing? The same applies to the three officers who reported “dodgy data gathering” on the Gold Coast.

Something is drastically wrong in our police force and must be rectified, Minister Ryan. And soon!

KEN JOHNSTON, ROCHEDALE SOUTH

I HAVE just returned home to Queensland following 20 years employment in Asia.

I am shocked to see a dramatic increase in the number of grossly obese men and women, even children. Is there an increase in the lazy habit of choosing less healthy takeaways with no exercise or pride in appearance?

It is no wonder our once envious champion sportsmen and women rankings have slipped so far.
