Green plan to protect city spaces
A COUNCIL “green” draft strategy to increase vegetation on the Coast by 2020 is open for community consultation.
The “Our Natural City” strategy aims to meet a target of 51 per cent vegetation for the city in three years. Levels are already at 50.39 per cent.
Planning Committee chair councillor Cameron Caldwell said the draft plan was about ensuring the long-term protection of the city’s natural assets.
“We are responding to community aspirations of wanting to live in a city where people can enjoy nature,” he said.
“The Gold Coast is one of the most biodiverse cities in Australia and we’ll aim to conserve it as our city grows.”
A budget will be allocated once consultation concludes and following council consideration in June.
