Oldest man dies at 146

A HEAVY smoker – whose documents appear to show he is the oldest person to have lived, outside Biblical references – has died at 146.

Indonesian Sodimedjo, who was also known as Mbah Ghoto or Grandpa Ghoto, was born in December 1870, according to his papers.

There are questions over the reliability of this information because Indonesia started recording births in 1900.

But officials say his claims are valid, based on interviews and documents he provided.

He outlived four wives, all his children and 10 siblings.
