Angland in hunt for home win

-

TYE Angland is hopeful trainer Matt Cumani provides him with the opportunity to finally win his hometown feature race on Grey Lion in the Listed $150,000 Wagga Wagga Gold Cup (2000m) on Friday.

Grey Lion, the classy former English stayer, is also entered for the Warrnambool Cup tomorrow and Angland is sweating on Cumani’s call.

“I hope they decide to run at Wagga because I think Grey Lion is one of the best chances in the race,’’ Angland said.

“He ran really well to beat all but Qewy in the Geelong Cup last spring and if he brings that form to Wagga, then he will be in the finish.’’

Angland always makes a point of riding in the two-day Wagga Cup Carnival and will partner Ziggy Willie in the $110,000 Wagga Town Plate (1200m) tomorrow.

“I’ve ridden a second and a third placing in the Cup and a second in the Town Plate – I’d love to win these races in my old hometown,’’ he said.

It’s a busy week for Angland as he has four rides at Warwick Farm today including Godolphin duo Barbeque and Dissolute before linking with the stable again at the feature Gold Coast meeting on Saturday.

The star jockey will ride Doncaster Mile winner It’s Somewhat in the Hollindale Stakes.
