HUNT FOR CRAZED SWORD ROBBER
POLICE are hunting a man who held up an Upper Coomera convenience store with a samurai sword in broad daylight on Tuesday.
The man got away with only $300 in the attack on the Spar Express convenience store on Rose Valley Drive just after 4pm.
The man can be heard in CCTV footage yelling “All the money, go go go … hurry up,” while leaning over the counter and threatening the shopkeeper with a sword.
After stuffing money into a shopping bag he then fleees the store, dropping the sword in his haste, which he stops to pick up before jumping into the passenger seat of a white Holden Commodore getaway car.
The man was dressed in shorts and had a large piece of material wrapped around his head to conceal his identity.
Shop owner Zahid Khan said he was shocked that his quiet Highland Reserve convenience store had been the target of such a brazen attack.
“No one outside (this area) knows much about us,” he said.
“This is the first time this has happened.
“There are people in the kindergarten picking their kids up (at the same time).”
