A CONCRETER shot in the leg at Coolangatta yesterday owns supercars and will face court later this year charged with drug supply and possession. Brenton Fysh, 32, was attacked in his home by two men who made off with a safe. Mr Fysh owns two Lamborghinis and a Hummer. A friend said: “He always had a good surfboard, a good car, one of those guys who keeps on upgrading.”

A SUPERCAR-car driving concreter shot in the leg and robbed early yesterday will face Queensland Supreme Court this year charged with drug supply and possession.

Police said they believed the attack on Brenton Fysh, 32, at Coolangatta at 2am yesterday was likely “targeted”, but the victim told them he could not identify the shooter.

Mr Fysh was shot in the leg after two men dressed in hoodies, tracksuit pants and bandanas forced their way into his Rutledge Street home. They were armed with a small handgun and a yellow pick or axe handle.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Garrett said Mr Fysh, another man in his 30s and two women in their 20s, one of whom is Mr Fysh’s girlfriend, were home at the time.

The investigator said police believed several shots were fired and there was a struggle in the house before the two offenders got away with a safe full of cash and a black 2012 Audi Q3.

“That (Audi) has subsequently been located in Bilambil Heights in NSW and has been seized by NSW police,” he said.

“We’ll be keen to have that vehicle transferred back to Queensland and have (it) forensically examined.”

A photo on Mr Fysh’s Facebook page shows two Lamborghinis — an Aventador and Gallardo — in his garage. A Hummer was in the driveway at the time of the attack. The Audi belongs to his girlfriend.

The cheapest Aventador currently for sale in Australia is $519,000 and they can cost up to $1 million.

Mr Fysh is to face the Queensland Supreme Court on June 22 charged with drug trafficking and two counts of drug supply.

Police said they were not sure of the motive for yesterday’s attack.

“I understand there is at least one or a number of luxury motor cars there. It seems to be a hobby of the victim,” Detective Senior Sergeant Garrett said.

“I don’t think that’s particularly related to this incident though at this stage.

“The offenders in this instance haven’t targeted the luxury vehicle or vehicles.”

The Burleigh Criminal Investigation branch boss said Mr Fysh was lucky to escape with his life.

“He’s still undergoing treatment … we don’t believe them (the injuries) to be life threatening.

“We believe at this stage it’s likely a targeted offence but as I said, it’s very early in the investigation and we haven’t had the opportunity of interviewing the victim at this stage.

“It would have been a scary incident … we’re very interested to hear from anyone in the area who may have seen or heard anything.”

In a brief phone conversation as he was being taken into surgery, Mr Fysh said he was in good spirits.

“Even the triple-0 operator was surprised how chilled I was,” he said.

Friends of Mr Fysh said it was typical of him to be relaxed and calm – even after being shot.

“That doesn’t surprise me,” one friend said. “He’s very chilled, not really a loud and outspoken person, just really cruisy.

“He’s a good guy, doesn’t run around causing trouble, works hard, usually has a girlfriend ... just a normal dude.”

Friends said it also wasn’t a surprise to hear he’d have a safe and cash at his home or luxury cars in the garage.

While he worked as a concreter, Mr Fysh was mostly self-employed and had earned good money from a young age, they said.

“Even when we were young and surfing, he always had a good surfboard, a good car, one of those guys who keeps on upgrading.

“He’s earned good money since back in the younger days, always worked for himself and would have a crew of guys working for him.”

Police say one attacker was stockier than the other and 183cm (six feet) tall.

Both men are described as being in their 30s. One wore a grey hoodie and the other a dark black hoodie. Both wore bandanas.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
