Cancers not due to sun

A GENETIC study has found that melanomas on the hands, feet and inside of the lip are not caused by the sun.

The Australian-led research sheds new light on acral and mucosal melanomas – some of the deadliest forms of the disease – that has implications for their future treatment, researchers from the Melanoma Institute Australia say.

Every year in Australia, up to 420 people are diagnosed with acral or mucosal melanomas. These forms of melanoma are often more aggressive and are harder to diagnose.
