Titans to get around injury-hit Grevsmuhl

-

net and coach Neil Henry, who knows the Indigenous All Stars forward from his early days with the Cowboys, is confident the support systems exist to ensure Grevsmuhl remains “upbeat”.

“Certainly if he’s going to be out for an extended period of time it’s a bit of a worry for him,” Henry said. “But he’s quite upbeat. “He’s come back to footy and we’ve got a safety net around him and around what he wants to do.

“He wants to do a bit of study as well, so he’ll get into that if he’s going to be off for an extended period of time.”

While he did not want to single out players, Titans chief executive Graham Annesley said the club did “everything we can to look after all of our players”.

“We’ve got two full-time player education and welfare staff who spend all their time talking to the players, trying to make sure that they’re OK, not only physically but from a mental health perspective,’’ he said.

“The great thing about a football club is it’s like a family environment, so there is help and support there for them. Often people in the community are isolated and don’t have people to help with their issues.

“In a football club, we’ve got resources that we can assist with, we’ve got resources that we can refer people to and a lot of this happens – in fact most of it happens without any general public knowledge whatsoever.”

Certainly, Grevsmuhl, who earlier this year was working as a builder in Orange, will not be isolated.

“He’ll be in and about the boys as well,’’ Henry said.

“But he’s very happy to be on the Coast, him and his partner have settled and hopefully he’s here for the long haul.”
