Putting brakes on towies
STATE cabinet will hold an urgent discussion on potential reforms to the towing industry today after predatory tactics in the sector were exposed.
Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said he was “absolutely livid” about the “cowboy” tactics in the unregulated area of towing from private property.
“Clearly this is something that needs to be acted upon,” he said.
Tow-truck operators have been using a legal black hole to rake in up to $1000 for each car towed from private car parking lots, using CCTV cameras, spotters, bait cars and vague signage to catch drivers.
