Blast for ‘lazy’ players

Broadbeach coach rips in to team after disappointing derby showing

the home side by 4.7 to 4.2 was not enough to ease Andrews’s mood.

“That was junk time,” he said when asked if it was a positive to have “won” the fourth quarter.

Andrews had good words for utility James Royes and midfielder Luke Shreeve. But that was it in the complimentary stakes.

The atmosphere was completely different in the PBC rooms.

Pre-match it was thought that Broadbeach could expose the Lions with their abundant height.

Yet it was the opposite because the Lions used the ball so well and starved the big Cats of any possession. Actually, PBC could have kicked a lot more goals but did not have a big centre half-forward to go to. Instead they ran the ball wide and through the middle superbly and the Cats had no answer.

Half-back Josh Woolley had a blinder for PBC and coach Chad Owens was happy with brothers Zac (on a wing) and Jed (defence).

Up front Jarryd Douglas (five) and Guy Dickson, a listed Aspley player, finished with four.

Premiers Labrador survived a slow start before beating Morningside by 13.12 (90) to 10.12 (72) at Esplen Oval in Brisbane.

The Tigers trailed by 16 points at the first break after running into the wind.

The Tigers outscored Morningside 5.2 to 2.0 in the second quarter then, against the wind again, took the third term by 5.3 to 1.5 before easing up in the run home. Jacob Kenny, tagging Nathan Kinch, Billy Hicks, defender Wayde Mills and first-gamer Nabako Stow were standout performers for the 2015-16 champions.

Labrador did it tough as they staged a running battle with match umpires, who

penalised the visitors in a lopsided free-kick count.

At Sir Bruce Small Park Surfers Paradise bowed to Mt Gravatt who took the game by 18.10 (118) to 12.10 (82).

Cody Filewood, the listed Southport forward, kicked six goals for the Demons and was their best, ahead of Chris Kranz and Jesse Moffa, another on the Southport list.
