Woman fighting for life after leap from taxi
A WOMAN is fighting for her life after she jumped from a moving maxi taxi metres from the Southport Police Station early Monday morning.
The woman had asked a male Gold Coast Cabs driver to take her to the police station on Scarborough St when she got in the taxi about 1.30am.
As the taxi neared her destination the 41-year-old woman opened the sliding door and jumped.
Paramedics rushed to the scene, finding the woman unconscious and suffering a serious head injury. She was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
Police have reviewed CCTV from the taxi, but are staying tight-lipped on what led to the sudden exit from the moving vehicle.
Gold Coast Cabs interim CEO Benjamin Lee said he could confirm there was an incident in which a female passenger opened stepped out of a moving taxi.
“Our thoughts are with the customer at this time, and we are providing support to the driver,” he said.
