Paul’s new venture scoops the pooper

PAUL Reimer has heard all the jokes about his new job.

Crap day. S*** happens. Tired of picking up everyone else’s ...

Even when he told his wife and son that his new business venture involved collecting dog poo, they laughed.

But four weeks after launching Doggy Doo Doo Disposal, Paul and son Lockie, 20, are getting calls from people in need of a squeakyclean garden. “We have about 25 clients far,” said Mr Reimer of Clear Island Waters. “The service is offered Monday to Saturday, but we’re happy to do Sunday if necessary.”

Mr Reimer said he saw a similar concept in Melbourne and realised the service wasn’t offered on the Gold Coast.

Doggy Doo Doo is his third start-up after founding a real estate agency, Realtor Gold Coast, and online fashion store, Horngry Apparel, with his daughter two years ago.

Mr Reimer said his doggy tools were pretty “basic” but included pleasantly scented garbage bags, gloves and hat, as well as pooper-scoopers.

And they’re not the clamp pooper-scoopers either. “We tried them, but it just didn’t do the job,” he said, adding they simply popped the closed bag into the outside garbage bins when they were done.

Of course, the job can’t get away without a bit of toilet humour, especially after Mr Reimer promoted “20 poocent” off their services for first-time customers.

“I had a bit of a laugh,” Mr Reimer said of his pun.

“But it’s just one of those jobs you have to do with pets, (and) with kids it’s healthier to have a clean backyard.”

Mr Reimer said most of his clients worked long hours and didn’t have time to clean up the garden of doggie deposits as often as they should, much like mowing the yard.

“Moving forward, we’ll go to veterinary surgeries, places where your dog can get pampered and dog parks. At the moment we only do Facebook advertising and have a small one-page website.”

Mr Reimer said the first time they cleaned a yard for a new client they would meet the dog. “We never go into a backyard without meeting the dog first,” he said.

“Most dogs are pretty well behaved, we’re always introduced with the owners there. Most dogs want to play, so we try and entertain them while we’re working.”

Prices range from $15 for a daily clean to $45 for a oneoff clean for areas up to 1000 square metres.
