Giants warned a bond is required

-

INAUGURAL coach Kevin Sheedy says Greater Western Sydney needs to gel better as a team if it is to be a genuine flag contender this year.

The Giants suffered their second loss of the season on Friday night against St Kilda. Coach Leon Cameron conceded the Saints “wanted it a little bit more” as they kicked six of the last seven goals to triumph by 23 points. GWS sits second behind Adelaide in the premiership betting market and has a list brimming with talent, but Sheedy said it needed to take a leaf out of the book of premiers Western Bulldogs and play a better brand of team if they want to go all the way.

“I think the Giants have got a bit to do if they think they’re going to win it,” Sheedy said.

“They need to get their best players on the ground and they need to play like St Kilda and the Bulldogs have played. The Bulldogs have been very good. They showed everybody last year how to play as a team.”

Friday night’s loss was compounded by a seasonending knee injury to Adam Kennedy. The Giants yesterday confirmed the 24-year-old defender would require a knee reconstruction.
