Maggots in my mother

A NSW woman is pushing for an inquiry into aged care neglect after she was told her mother was found with maggots in her mouth at a nursing home near Newcastle.

Jayne Carter’s mother, Shirley, who suffered from dementia, died at the Opal Raymond Terrace Gardens facility in October 2016, one day after staff admitted being “embarrassed” about the incident.

“I went and sat down with her and I was more and more disturbed, and more and more angry, and more betrayed,” Ms Carter said.
