Light rail funds plea

THE Gold Coast City Council has reiterated calls for the Federal Government to use part of its $10 billion on infrastructure to help plan for the third stage of the light rail.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates again called on the Government to contribute $3.3 million towards the project’s $10 million design stage. “It ($3.3 million) is a spit in the ocean in terms of getting our forward planning in place so we can get to the airport,” she said.

Moncrieff MP Steve Ciobo said the council should not have expected funds as they had not been applied for.

Cr Gates said a submission had been made to the federal government last year in relation to the funds.
