the Peppers Airlie Beach Resort. A conditional contract is on the table for the 4.5-star resort, which has been put up for sale by receivers.

The pending deal involves 59 of the 106 strata apartments as well as the management rights and some common area facilities such as reception, restaurant, meeting and conference venue and a day spa.

It was put on the market last year after its developer Latitude Development Group was placed in receivers’ hands.

The resort sits on a hillside on a 1.8ha, north-facing holding with views across the Port of Airlie Marina.

“Airlie Beach is a drop-off point for the Whitsundays but we think it is starting to grow as a destination,” he said.

He said if Wyndham acquired the resort it would be run as a Ramada property, one of the group’s 18 brands.

Mr Robinson said it is looking at other potential buys in the area.

“We’ve looked at a few island opportunities but haven’t landed one yet,” he said.

“When Daydream Island was on the market we looked at it but we couldn’t get a deal done there.”

He said the group has also run the rule over a couple of other North Queensland island resorts, including Fitzroy Island off Cairns.

“There’s nothing we’re really excited about at the moment but hopefully at some stage we’ll do something with an island up there,” he said.
