Carnage may tweak Cyclones gameplans

-

THE Gold Coast Cyclones will cut their train-on squad to 25 on Wednesday as they prepare for a representative tournament on the Sunshine Coast.

Cyclones director of rugby Joe Faalogo said they had 35 to 40 players currently training with the side, which is selected from the Gold Coast District Rugby Union competition.

The delay in finalising the squad is a result of selectors waiting to see if all players get through the weekend’s round of matches unscathed.

“What tends to happen is four or five of them get injured and so that changes your squad completely so we keep it up in the air a little bit,” Faalogo said.

While admitting he has a fair idea of how the squad may end up, Faalogo insisted there are spots still up for grabs – including the captaincy.

The Cyclones will play Sunshine Coast at Caloundra next Friday night and take on Darling Downs at Noosa the following morning.

From that carnival, a South Queensland team will be picked to compete against rep sides from the state’s central and northern regions. The ultimate goal is a Queensland Country Heelers berth.
