FRANK HAS THEM LICKED BY BEERING ALL

- KRISTY MUIR

THROWING back a few cold ones in Surfers Paradise is nothing to rave about.

But downing VB beer gelati definitely is.

Frank Bailey has been making preservative-free gelati for 13 years and there isn’t an alcoholic or non-alcoholic flavour he hasn’t tried.

“I have tried every fruit and every sort of alcohol,” the Zanette's Gelati owner said. “I can make any flavour. You just have to ask.

“I have made gelato using XXXX pale ale, Baileys Irish Cream and Margaritas.”

Mr Bailey even tested out “how Aussie” he could go with Vegemite-flavoured gelato, although it wasn’t as big of a hit as VB.

“I used a 750ml bottle of beer in each batch.

Mr Bailey said experimenting with flavours kept him “interested” in his job.

“It keeps me entertained,” he said. “I can use whatever flavour I want.”

Mr Bailey, a former property developer and corporate account, said 100,000 people bought gelato from his store each year. “You meet some interesting characters and they keep coming back because the gelato is great.”
