It’s good Knights to Apollo in thrashing

“We conceded a goal quite early and the boys got down because of a mistake and didn’t react well from it and could not get out of the hole,” Surfers Paradise coach David Benigno said.

Pressure from the defensive unit was a significant factor in the result, according to Knights coach Alex Morrison.

“The back four – Daniel Grzic, Daniel Dragicevic, Dean Wernerson and Zac O’Hare – were great and our keeper Tim Warren was outstanding in goal again,” Morrison said.

Watson, O’Hare and Andrew Barisic scored for the rampant Knights who get slippery Japanese winger Ryosuke Kawakami back from suspension next weekend.

Things also look brighter for the Apollo who should get key pair Nikki Felizatto and Tolga Yorulmaz back from injury when they play Broadbeach United in a huge Round 11 clash at the latter’s Nikiforides Park on Saturday night.

At Pizzey Park, Burleigh Heads continued their rise away from the bottom rungs of the ladder with a 3-0 win against struggling Coomera.

Hayden Sumner scored twice for the Bulldogs after both sides lost a player each in the second half, both for double yellow cards.

The race for the Premier League’s golden boot award is on in earnest after two previous winners scored goals over the weekend.

Sean Robinson scored for Broadbeach United in their 2-1 win against Magic United on Friday night, taking his 2017 tally to 11. The Knights’ Barisic is also well in the hunt a couple of goals back.

At Mallawa Derive, where Palm Beach edged Murwillumbah 3-2, Matt Hilton scored twice and now sits on 10 goals for the season.

“It looks like we’re involved in a good race,” Hilton said.

Robinson won the golden boot in 2012 with Southport and before that Hilton took the same award in 2009 when playing with Burleigh Heads.

Hilton said it was a physical clash with Murwillumbah although the Sharks handled it well to lead 3-1 before a late score from the Warning.
