DON’T be fooled – when it comes to reality TV, Channel 9’s controversial couples-in-crisis series The Last Resort is as real as it gets.

So says Gold Coast security operations manager and father Josh Grocock.

Parents to daughter Tylah, 2, Grocock and his partner, Sharday McAvoy, are one of five couples trying to repair their fractured relationship on the series under the expert guidance of psychologist Sandy Rea and love coach Michael Myerscough.

“There is nothing fake about it,” he says.

“This is as real as it’s going to get. There’s a lot more at stake than building a house or cooking a cake.

“These are people with real relationships, people who have houses and children and 10 years of history. How can you get deeper than that?”

While the couple made headlines when they revealed Sharday told Josh their baby wasn’t his when she was pregnant, there is no question Josh had – and has – his longtime love’s back.

“First and foremost, regardless of anything, Sharday is my best friend,” he says.

The couple were back in the spotlight last week when Sharday had to watch Josh walk down the aisle with another woman in a ‘mock’ wedding ceremony.

“I stood up ready to go her. My heart was breaking,” Sharday says, adding viewers will see her “change quite a lot as a person” on the show.

“Sandy did a lot of work with me. I’ve learnt a lot about our relationship.

“She had us digging into wounds. It hurt but we healed after we hurt our most.”

The Last Resort continues tonight at 7.30pm on Nine.
