COAST dancer Chase Vollenweider gets paid to travel the world on a cruise ship.
Mr Vollenweider, 18, said his life had changed since he graduated from Coomera Anglican College last year and headed to Miami where he began rehearsals for his contract with Celebrity Cruises.
“Rehearsals were tough — Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm — however, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way,” he said. “I am so lucky to be paid to do what I love and I’m blown away to call this work.”
Mr Vollenweider said the three shows he performed covered all styles of dance.
“It’s awesome (because) I know I won’t fall behind or lose my ability in any of these major styles,” he said.
“If anything, I feel like I have already improved just by performing these shows over the past few months.
“Theme nights are performed in the grand foyer and it eventually becomes a huge interactive dance party with the guests.
“We also teach ballroom lessons on the ship which is fun.
“We are very privileged as dancers with Celebrity to be able to experience so many amazing places ... we visited Puerto Rico, Mexico, Haiti, Jamaica and when we cross to Europe we will be visiting places like Ibiza, Barcelona and Rome.”
Mr Vollenweider said cruise ships provided an ideal stepping stone for dancers wanting to kickstart their careers.
“I have been so lucky to be able to join such a wonderful cruise ship at such a young age,” he said.
“You are able to meet the most incredible people and make great memories, while doing what you love most.”
