Jailed over stab attack

A GOLD Coast man has been sentenced to five years’ jail after confessing to stabbing another man in the back at a Nerang property in May 2014.

Matthew Chivers, 32, pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court to unlawfully wounding another man at a Nerang address after he and mate Matthew Hinde stormed the property to find the victim smoking ice with a prostitute.

The court heard Chivers arrived with a spear and a knife after being left behind by the victim at a Mudgeeraba pub.

The attack was believed to have been over a drug debt. Chivers was released on immediate parole.
