Man charged over 2007 sex assault

-

A BURLEIGH Waters man was arrested and charged yesterday for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage boy in Mermaid Waters in 2007.

The 51-year-old was charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of rape, deprivation of liberty and going armed so as to cause fear.

He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

The man allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old Brazilian male student on Markeri St on December 13, 2007.

Detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit have closed the ten-year long investigation.

Gold Coast CPIU, Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant Troy Penrose labelled the outcome of the investigation “satisfying”.

“As a result of dedicated police work and modern technology that wasn’t available at the time of the offence police were able to solve this crime,” he said.

“We hope it brings closure to the victim and his family.”
