ONE in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer by the age of 85.

But regular screening can help detect the disease in its early stages when it’s easier to treat, says BreastScreen Queensland’s health promotion officer Julia Foreman.

She said women aged between 50 and 74 should have a screening mammogram every two years.

“Research has found this age group benefits most from screening and breast cancer risk increases with age,” she said.

“Having this health check is now even easier since BreastScreen Queensland launched its online booking system.”

Ms Foreman said women aged 40 and older could go online to register with the free BreastScreen Queensland program.

They can book and Tel: 132 050 // breastscreen.qld.gov.au reschedule their appointments, manage contact details and view correspondence.

Services are located at Helensvale, Southport and West Burleigh and a mobile unit is visiting the Robina Community Centre until early July.

After-hours appointments are offered and services are wheelchair friendly and interpreter assistance can be arranged if needed.
