Torney said while it was great that the club’s academy was showing such depth, he warned there were a lot more tests to come for the players.

“A lot of our players have shown the attitude to play on lists,” Torney said.

“It’s a matter of whether they fit the right mould for what clubs are looking for and even what we are looking for as a footy club.”

The likes North Melbourne ruckman Brayden Preuss – a Suns academy graduate – have filtered through to rival clubs in recent years.

Torney said that it may happen more frequently if Gold Coast increase their numbers in the draft.

“It’s been really important for our footy club to create that and if we get the best couple of players then excellent,” Torney said.

“In any given year there is four or five then the other two or three will end up going to another club. They are all aware of how it works at the end of the year.

“That is just a great developmen­t process or tool, not just for the Suns.”
