Family’s alarm at change in behaviour
PHOTOS on the 13-year-old girl’s family fridge show a beaming primary school pupil.
But now her Facebook page includes selfies with extended middle fingers.
It was a short but steep downward spiral for the Coomera girl involved in a potentially deadly interstate joy ride. But it seems the girl’s first brush with the law has put her on the straight and narrow.
“I thought she would sulk when she came back but she’s quite remorseful, ” her mother said.
“It was a surprise, she even said she had to put a stop to it.”
Her mother explained it was alarming how quickly her child’s behaviour became out of control when she fell in with the wrong friends.
Behavioural problems including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and oppositional defiant disorder made it even worse.
“She knows exactly what she’s doing but she is so easily led it’s not funny,” she said.
She said it has been an incredibly tough week for the young family, especially after finding her daughter had allegedly been involved in drugs.
“I collapsed when I saw (the car), we don’t tolerate drugs in this house,” she said.
“As soon as I opened the door I told my son who came out with me to get back inside, the smell, how can I put my kids in there?
“They must have spilt (bong water) through the car.”
Now the girl is with her grandmother in Adelaide, a move regularly discussed by the family.
“She’s on a plane to Adelaide to be with her grandmother now, I think she knows she needs to put a stop to it,” she said last night.
“She never had a criminal history before this.”
