Irishman goes along for the Weir ride

His magic run continued when Volatile Mix was an upset winner in the South Australian Derby last week.
“It’s fantastic riding a good jumper but to be winning these big races on the flat is good too,” he said.
“I came out here as a jumps jockey. It took a bit to convince Darren to use me on the flat.
“We’ve had a good association. He’s just gone from strength to strength since I’ve been there and it’s good to go along for the ride I suppose.” flat
Now Weir has summoned Allen to Queensland, where his only previous experience was a hit-and-run visit on Ipswich Cup day last year.
“When you’re riding for Darren, he’s going to get every last inch of improvement out of a horse for a big race,” he said.
“Kenedna has been going super but she hasn’t really been on a wet track before, so that’s a bit of a concern.
“The other two have excellent wet-track form.
“Amelie’s Star is definitely a mare on the up.”
