-

@EmmaGreenwood12 Manly to a 30-10 rout over the Titans on Saturday night in an individual performance that fuelled speculation he could regain a place in Queensland’s Origin squad.

The Sea Eagles captain admitted he had a point to prove on the Gold Coast after being the target of savage criticism in the lead-up to the game.

Maroons legend Gorden Tallis was among those to rubbish the playmaker, saying he had “never delivered” for Queensland in Origin, while reneging on his Titans deal would also count against him.

The 28-year-old has stayed largely silent on his backflip since announcing his decision not to honour his Titans deal.

But asked about the heated reaction of Titans fans to him almost two years on from the decision, Cherry-Evans gave real insight into the that still exists.

“There will never be water under the bridge, and that’s OK with me,” he said.

“I understand the situation that I caused for myself but I’m lucky that I’ve got a really strong bunch of teammates that helped me through it and they made what could possibly be a really unpleasant visit a very pleasant visit.” feeling

Cherry-Evans admitted he had plenty to prove on Saturday after Tallis’s criticism.

“I guess so, yes, to be honest. I like exceeding expectations,” he said.

“Off the back of a few snide remarks, it was great to play well.

“As a professional, you don’t really need to rely on that to play well every week.
