‘Olympics bid not on’

MAJOR events chiefs have torn shreds off a plan to take the Olympic Games to Queensland.

Australian Olympic Committee boss John Coates this month said he wanted to bring the Games to Brisbane and six supporting cities in the Sunshine State in 2028 or 2032.

But Commonwealth Games chairman and former premier Peter Beattie said a new Olympic bid would only work with Melbourne. And Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games chief Ron Walker declared Coates’ plan “nonsense’’.
