Late rapper Notorious B.I. G, who would have turned 45 this week, was represente­d by his son C.J. Wallace.

Other big winners include former One Direction member Zayn as Top New Artist, Beyonce as Top Female Artist, Top Touring Artist, Top R & B Artist Twenty One Pilots as Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Artist, Coldplay for Top Rock Tour and Chainsmoke­rs as Top Dance/Electronic Artist.

Previous winners of the Icon award include Prince, Neil Diamond and Celine Dion.

Kiwi artist Lorde performed at the event, as well as artists including Chainsmoke­rs, Nicki Minaj and Drake with Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran performing via satellite.
