Risk is food for thought

BIOSECURIT­Y officers seized more than 6760 items from Gold Coast Airport in 2016, up 15 per cent from 2015.

“Passengers need to think about the risk they’re posing to Australia when they pack their bags,” Department of Agricultur­e and Water Resources’ Lyn O’Connell said.

Items seized included 969kg of meat (up 28.5 per cent), 302kg of seafood (up 114pc), 176kg of apples and pears (up 70pc), 300 egg products (up 98pc) and 419 items of citrus (up 33pc).
