Badminton’s bonus Smart sell as millions see Coast’s attractions

-

“We went out and said, not just come and watch the Cup, but come and watch the Cup and enjoy the fun of Gold Coast – so they all go on the internet and see there is so much to do.”

Gold Coast Tourism spokesman Dean Gould said the city, along with Tourism and Events Queensland, had targeted the event for its immense promotional potential.

“The estimated television audience is a staggering 500 million, mostly across Asia, and that was always the major driver of support for this event,” he said.

“The finals look like being close to a sellout so if anyone is thinking of attending they should purchase their tickets immediately.”

The Sudirman Cup continues until Sunday, with defending champions China – who have won the past six of the biennial events – looking to fend off contenders including Korea, Japan, Malyasia, Denmark and India.
