PRIVATE RYAN

-

UNDER-FIRE Police Minister Mark Ryan came out of hibernation yesterday to pat the government on the back for the “plunging” bikie numbers in Queensland.

The Gold Coast Bulletin reported the story 13 days ago. This month, this newspaper has revealed: * A quarter of sex crimes are not solved. * The Crime and Corruption Commission is looking into police fudging of crime data.

* Women reporting they “felt pressured to withdraw sexual assault complaints” and police “unfounding” of cases had increased.

* Officers faced reprimand for seeking overtime after taking serial domestic violence offenders off the street.

* The number of children going through court jumped 50 per cent in a year, and only three of the 57 officers in schools statewide were based on the Gold Coast.

All this while senior Gold Coast officers face claims of nepotism.

How long is Mr Ryan going to be in denial? Instead of regurgitating old news he needs to show the leadership his frontline staff deserve.
