Runaway Bay cuts Wallace
LEADING coach Ross Wallace will plot the development of Mudgeeraba-Nerang next season after a surprise parting of the ways with Runaway Bay.
The veteran former South Brisbane premier grade fast bowler has confirmed he has taken an offer to coach the Bushmen in the 2017-18 Kookaburra Cup competition.
Wallace was told by Runaway Bay playing president Travis Harker that the Seagulls board has decided to go in a different direction and they were keen for a playing coach.
It is understood that Cameron Garnham, who has been with the Bushmen as head coach for two seasons, has stepped down to concentrate on junior development at Mudgeeraba.
Wallace conceded he was disappointed to hear he was no longer wanted at Sam Loxton Oval.
“I cannot understand that,” Wallace said.
“They need to develop some cricketers of their own before they start getting player-coaches.
“It is disappointing from my point of view because I made some good mates down there.
“It is just the way it was done.”
Wallace will continue his role as head coach at The Southport School and combine it with the MudgeerabaNerang role.
“I’m looking forward to a new challenge at a new club,” said the 2009-10 Gold Coast Dolphins Brisbane grade premiership coach.
“They have so many juniors out there that it’s ridiculous.”
