Voss says he was not ready at Lions

-

FORMER Brisbane coach Michael Voss has admitted he was not ready when appointed to the top job at the Lions but believes he would be much better prepared if another opportunity did arise.

Voss coached the Lions from 2009-2013, recording just 43 wins and a draw from 109 games, but has admitted he was in a position where he was “making stuff up” on the run.

After a season off, Voss joined Port Adelaide as a midfield coach.

The 41-year-old said senior coaching again was “the furthest thing from my mind”.

However, asked if he would be better prepared for a second crack, he said that was certain.

“I think most people would say ‘yes’ on that,” Voss said on SEN radio.

“I think the experience that you go into next time is completely different.

“In a lot of ways my first go at it was making stuff up as you go which is a pretty hard way to be able to learn and when you get the chance to be able to step away from that and work on the things you need to get right you’re always going to be a bit healthier second time around.”
