An extra large delivery
SYDNEY’S Taronga Zoo is celebrating the birth of a male Asian elephant.
Pak Boon gave birth to the 130kg calf – her second – on Friday after an almost twoyear pregnancy.
A zoo spokesman said the birth was relatively quick, lasting just over half an hour, with both mother and calf in good health.
Elephant keeper Lucy Melo described it as the highlight of her 20-year career and a “miracle of nature”. “I was amazed at how quickly the baby elephant found his footing,” said Ms Melo after delivering her fourth calf at the zoo.
