On course to cash in

BURLEIGH Golf Club, swinging its way to new financial strength thanks to a land deal, is “ringing up” a healthy annual cheque from telco Vodafone.

It’s getting around $20,000 a year for letting Vodafone build a mobile-phone tower among the gum trees behind the green on the third hole.

The bonus cash comes as the club is poised to work its way out of debt thanks to a deal to lease land to a retirement village developer.
