Attack plan lifts Tugun

-

TUGUN coach Martin Griese believes his side’s shift in focus to attack is paying dividends after the Seahawks downed Currumbin 38-18 yesterday.

Griese operates off the “defence wins premierships” motto but opted for a change of approach after his side managed an average of 15.5 points through the opening four rounds of Gold Coast Rugby League for a result of one win.

The last two rounds, by contrast, have seen them post winning scores of 32 and 38.

“We’d been working on (defence) pretty hard for a fair while and then obviously just decided that we would put a bit more emphasis on the offence,” Griese said.

“We’ve started to put some good scorelines on the board so that has been pleasing.

“I’m a bit disappointed that we let in 18 points (yesterday) but we’ll instil a bit more pride in our line and work on that defence again.”

Having now played every team except cellar dwellers Ormeau, Griese is confident his squad will be in the mix this season.

In other games, Runaway Bay, Burleigh and Tweed Heads all racked up good wins.
