Treasure for Pirates

IT SEEMS the Gold Coast has brought some much-needed vigour to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

The fifth instalment of the $4 billion series, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, topped the box office in its opening weekend in the US with an estimated $77 billion.

The film had great success abroad, launching with an impressive $208.4 million, which Disney said beat the most recent Pirates sequel by 17 per cent.
