Twin blow as recruits succumb to injuries

-

DAN Sarginson and Chris Grevsmuhl are in danger of not donning Gold Coast colours again this season as they recover from shoulder issues.

Titans coach Neil Henry is resigned to being without Sarginson for the remainder of the year after he needed surgery on the shoulder he dislocated during the side’s win over Melbourne earlier this month.

His injuries started early this year. Sarginson played the season opener before missing the next six rounds with knee tendonitis.

He looked to be slowly improving on his return and ran for a season high 161 metres in the Titans’ upset win over Cronulla.

But during the Round 10 defeat of Melbourne, Sarginson went down clutching his shoulder.

“He’s had the patella tendon (knee) problem and now he’s injured his shoulder and we might not see him for the rest of this season,” Henry said.

Despite limited playing time, Sarginson is a popular member around the group and the coach wants to keep him around the squad.

“We’ll keep him around the boys. He’ll do his rehab, then a good pre-season, where he hopefully puts a few kilos on and get those legs a bit better and bigger and be right to go in 2018,” Henry said.

Grevsmuhl, meanwhile, faces an indefinite stint on the sidelines due to nerve damage in his shoulder.

The 24-year-old last took the field against Cronulla in April but is stuck in a holding pattern as it is determined whether an operation will actually help his recovery, as opposed to simply resting the injury.
