Man denied bail as alleged GHB awaits testing

-

A LOGAN man allegedly found with seven litres of a substance believed to be GHB could be behind bars for up to six months while police test the fluid.

Anthony Francis Dorozario applied for bail in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday after being charged with drugs and weapons offences earlier this month.

Police allegedly found a hand gun and a container of liquid in the boot of a car during an intercept at a Southport McDonald’s on May 25 and Dorozario was charged and taken into custody. Defence lawyer Ashkan Tai argued the substance was cleaning product and had not yet been tested by police. He said his client should be granted bail on the basis it could not be proven the liquid was GHB.

The court heard the bail application had been adjourned to allow police to test the liquid but as of yesterday, it had not left the Gold Coast and been sent to Brisbane for testing.

Magistrate Joan White said she could not grant him bail as he had been charged while on bail for similar offences.
