Council elections back in spotlight

-

TWO more days of hearings regarding last year’s Gold Coast council elections are to be held by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

The CCC yesterday revealed nine more witnesses would be called before the hearings in Brisbane, including former Gold Coast mayoral candidate Penny Toland who has previously run as a Labor candidate for Broadwater.

CFMEU state secretary Michael Ravbar has also been called to the hearings on June 13 and 14. The hearings are being held a part of Operation Belcar- ra which is also investigating the local government elections in Ipswich and Moreton Bay.

Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate, councillors Cameron Caldwell and Kristyn Boulton and Fadden MP Stuart Robert were called before the hearing in April.
