Driver killed in head-on collision with truck

A 45-YEAR-OLD Kingscliff man was killed in a horrific crash yesterday.

The man was in a car when it collided head-on with a truck on the notorious Tweed Valley Way at Tumbulgum.

The 38-year-old driver of the tip truck was treated by New South Wales paramedics and airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital with leg injuries.

Tweed Byron Local Area Command detective chief inspector Brendon Cullen confirmed the impact of the collision, which happened about 7am, caused the truck driver to be thrown from his vehicle.

“First aid was applied to the driver who had been ejected from the vehicle,” he said.

“He suffered fractures to his legs and other limbs (and) was subsequent­ly airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatenin­g injuries.”
