Pay risk to civil service
QUEENSLAND’S public service is overly top-heavy, with too many highly-paid senior bureaucrats compared to front-line staff, according to an audit office report.
The report found the number of employees on level AO8 and above, who earn at least $100,000 a year, have increased from between 20 to 70 per cent over the last five years.
“It will be difficult to maintain a financially sustainable public service if this long-term trend continues,” the report said.
