Booyah a boost for teenagers

-

A POLICE-run mentor program called ‘Project Booyah’ is helping disconnected teenagers across the state build their career and vocational pathways.

More than 180 new recruits are this year expected to go through the program, which runs for 20 weeks and is being held in partnership with the McDonald’s Work Inspiration Program.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Frame first established Project Booyah, which means ”joy” or “triumph”, in 2011 to prevent disengaged youth from getting on the wrong side of the law.

“The program offers mentorship to prevent teenagers who are disengaged in their communities from going through the criminal justice system and put them on the path to success,” Det Sen-Sgt Frame said.

“We treat all the participants of the program with respect and dignity and to ensure their personal and professional career goals are being addressed.

“Ultimately, Project Booyah is about helping young people reach their full potential.”

Since the program began, more than 230 youths have transitioned into employment with McDonald’s around the state.
