NORTH EMERGES

-

THE Gold Coast has its own forgotten people and they live in the northern suburbs.

Population growth in this affordable corridor beside the M1 has outstripped the services needed for a properly functioning community.

The region has a population of 75,000 – more than Bundaberg – yet it does not have fundamental infrastructure such as a 50m swimming pool or cinema.

Finally, things are looking up. Governments are spending on upgrades to the motorway and work has started on the Coomera Town Centre which will provide shopping facilities and 1600 jobs.

Now the region’s recreation needs are being addressed with a $56 million sports and parkland precinct.

The north is getting some love from the council. The State Government should follow suit with sorely needed new schools and police stations.
