Kyrgios concedes ‘there’s just no beating Nadal’

-

Kyrgios said before his secondround clash with South African Kevin Anderson tonight.

“I think Rafa on clay, his dominance right now is as big as it’s ever been.

“I think (Dominic) Thiem played an unbelievable match in Rome to just beat him.

“Then looked what happened the next round, he’s completely gone, physically and mentally. 2018 COMMONWEALTH GAMES HOST CITY

“I thought he was going to beat (Novak) Djokovic, to be honest, then he won one game.

“Nadal, I don’t think he’s worried at all about anyone in this tournament. Best of five, it suits him – he knows he’s not gonna lose, let’s be realistic.

“Murray, No.1 in the world, he’s got three times as many (rankings) points as anyone.

“I can’t really see the changing of the guard happening any time soon because of one tournament ... I think the young ones have a way to go.”

Kyrgios faces a tough task against Anderson, a former world No.10 now ranked 56.

Kyrgios is the only Australian man into the second round after Thanasi Kokkinakis and Jordan Thompson both lost.

In his first major since 2015, Kokkinakis suffered inevitable rust in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 loss to world No.9 Kei Nishikori.

Thompson went down to US 21st seed John Isner 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Meanwhile, Bernard Tomic’s woes continued after back pain caused the Queenslander out of the French Open doubles after only three games.

Tomic was last night blasted on social media for lasting only 12 minutes on court with partner Victor Estrella Burgos.
