Beach dredging begins

A MAJOR dredging operation is set for the Gold Coast in the next two weeks in an effort to preserve the city’s beaches.

International company RN Dredging will spend the next three months dredging sand almost 2km offshore to move closer to the beach.

The sand will be deposited near the shoreline at Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Miami and Palm Beach.

The dredgers will use the rainbow method which involves pumping the sand from the boat in an arc above the water to create even coverage through the area being replenished.
