Police ‘too slow’ to act Agonising wait on bomb threat plane

“I sort of lost my heart for a second and just picked up my phone and … texted my family.

“The worst thing was sitting on the plane for an hour before police turned up.

“We could see them all sitting outside the plane … we don’t know why they didn’t go on.”

The incident took place minutes after the Malaysia Airlines flight took off late on Wednesday night.

But Ms Brown said it wasn’t until about 8.30 the next morning that passengers were given back their luggage.

“We weren’t given any informatio­n … people were hungry, they were tired, they were cold,” she said.

Police later blamed “counter-terrorism protocols” for their delay in boarding the stricken plane.

The Chief Commission­er of Victoria Police Graham Ashton said officers had to consider the possibilit­y of other devices or offenders being on board before moving in.
